DESCRIPTION:This POST Certified course is designed to prepare support team members to respond and effectively support the psychological recovery and resilience of public safety personnel after a large-scale critical incident, an active shooter or terrorist event. All public safety employees and peer support members are encouraged to attend.\nTopics will include:\n– Identifying the ripple effect of a critical incident\n– Discuss and define the role of peer support\n– Increasing capacity to support after a critical incident\n– Understanding acute stress reactions\n– How to reduce post-traumatic stress injury (PTSI)\n– Increasing skills for crisis counseling\n– Discuss the importance of self-care\nPresenter\n\nHeather Williams, PsyD.\nConsultant, Embassy Consulting Services\nOwner, Premier First Responder Psychological Services\nAfter spending 5 years with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department as the Regional Peer Support Coordinator, Heather elected to take her passion to another level and, in 2019, established Premier First Responder Psychological Services. In 2023, she acquired Coherence Associates, located in Carlsbad, CA. As a licensed psychologist, Heather provides culturally competent services to individuals and couples working in public safety.
