Strategic Command Leadership, the Next Level is a dynamic 24-hour professional development course tailored for peace officers, non-sworn personnel, and law enforcement leaders at all ranks and tenures. This course is designed to deepen participants’ understanding of contemporary policing challenges, the value of organizational leadership, and effective communication within law enforcement environments. Whether you’re a supervisor, middle manager, command staff, or executive, this training equips you with the essential skills to navigate complex leadership dynamics, enhance professional relationships, and foster a positive organizational culture. Through a combination of real-life case studies, facilitated class discussions, and interactive exercises, students will gain valuable insights into managing personalities, developing high-performing teams, and leading change within law enforcement agencies.
Throughout the course, participants will explore critical topics such as police reform, public perception, recruitment and retention, and the intricacies of working with city and county government relationships. Chief John Perez (Ret.)
Constultant, Embassy Consulting Services
John is a retired law enforcement professional with 38 years of experience, including 36 years at the Pasadena Police Department and 2 years with the Los Angeles County Bureau of Investigations. His roles spanned patrol, field training management, community relations, internal affairs, SWAT, gang intelligence, and narcotic enforcement.
Post-9/11, he served as Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, developing homeland security initiatives for major events like the Rose Bowl and Rose Parade. In 2020, he led a major departmental reorganization toward intelligence-led and problem-oriented policing to reduce crime. He has held executive board positions in state police chief associations.
John holds a BS in Criminal Justice, a Master’s in Behavioral Science, and a Doctorate in Public Administration. Currently, he is a consultant with Embassy Consulting Services, serving as a special liaison to the Los Angeles Probation Department, subject matter expert on critical incidents and management, national instructor on organizational culture and leadership, and conducts organizational assessments nationwide.
