Ever seen an instructor, let alone a Police Chief, teach from the top of a counter? 😂

This is what emotional intelligence training looks like at the Civilian Leadership Institute.

During an EQ block, one of our students, a criminalist, shared a story every public safety professional can relate to. Tasked with investigating an officer-involved shooting, she knew the work would take days. Her Lieutenant wanted it in hours… and came back to ask "is it done yet?" not once, not twice, but four times.

By that fourth visit, from the top of a ladder, she reached her limit and let him know exactly where he could go.

So Embassy`s Tony Miranda did what any great instructor would do: climbed up and reenacted the whole scene, playing both roles, ladder height and all. 🎭

The lesson landed because we laughed our way through it. As the student put it, she wished she`d had emotional intelligence training years ago, it would`ve come in handy. That`s exactly why this block matters: we`ve all had a moment where our emotions got the best of us. The goal isn`t to never feel it. It`s to recognize it, manage it, and choose the response.

Today, Embassy facilitator Greg Schirmer stepped away from teaching to join his son for a 9/11 Memorial Murph with his Army ROTC battalion at Cal State Fullerton.

Father and son, side by side, honoring the first responders and countless others who gave everything in service to others on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

Proud of Greg. Proud of his son. And grateful for a new generation committed to remembering.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

We remember those we lost that day, and those we`ve lost in the years since to related illnesses. We honor the families who still carry the weight of that morning.

To the men and women who answered the call then, and to those who continue to serve and protect our communities today — thank you.
