This three-day course of instruction provides a comprehensive overview of IA and misconduct investigative best practices and standards intended to increase critical knowledge for sworn and non-sworn practitioners in Florida. The training is suitable for personnel assigned full-time to conduct administrative investigations or those who perform administrative investigations as an adjunct duty. The course content is specifically geared toward compliance with Florida primary authorities, including the Law Enforcement and Correctional Officers’ and Firefighters’ Bills of Rights. Extensive treatment is afforded to these contentious statutory authorities’ practical application and safe navigation.
The curriculum addresses techniques and strategies for lawful and proper handling of administrative investigations and related activities in all disciplines of public safety (Law Enforcement, Corrections, Correctional-Probation, and Fire Service) in Florida. Emphasis is focused on legal considerations and proper investigative strategies that consider due process obligations required by the United States Constitution, the Florida Constitution, and Florida statutes. National due process standards established by the Garrity, Weingarten, Loudermill, and Veal decisions are covered, as are issues related to Florida’s public records law.
