The Original Front Line Leadership Is Now California POST Certified

The Original Front Line Leadership (aka Front Line Leadership I) is now California POST Certified, official recognition of a course that has quietly become the standard for developing front-line supervisors in public safety.

For California agencies, the certification is more than a stamp. It means The Original is now recognized within the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) system, making it easier for departments across the state to send their current and aspiring supervisors to the training that thousands of officers already credit for changing the way they lead.

Why “The Original” Matters

The Original Front Line Leadership wasn’t built in a conference room or reverse-engineered from someone else’s outline. It was built in the field, refined over years of instruction, and shaped by the real challenges officers face the day they trade the responsibilities of a peace officer for the responsibility of leading their peers.

“This certification is a milestone, but the mission hasn’t changed. From the very first class, this course has been about helping supervisors lead themselves before they lead anyone else. California POST recognizing it just means more agencies can now give their people access to the original — the training that started this whole conversation about front-line leadership in public safety.” — Ron Bayne, Director of Training & Consulting

Since then, plenty of programs have borrowed the name and imitated the format. But there is only one original — the course that started it all, still taught by the people who built it. The California POST certification simply makes official what departments and graduates have said for years: this is the real thing.

The Philosophy Hasn’t Changed

Before you can lead others, you have to lead yourself. The Original still centers on self-reflection, personal accountability, and reconnecting officers with their professional “why” — the foundation that shapes culture, retention, and the health of an entire organization.

“We’re proud of what California POST certification represents. It’s validation of the quality our team has poured into this course for years, and it opens the door for departments across California to invest in their front-line leaders with confidence. There are a lot of imitators out there. This is the original, and now it carries the certification to match.” — Scott Robertson, Vice President of Training & Operations
